Body Of Missing Man Found In NW Suburban Lake

STREAMWOOD, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― The body of a northwest suburban man who was recently reported missing was found floating in a nearby lake Wednesday, authorities said.

Forest Preserve District of Cook County police were notified by Streamwood police Sunday that they were looking for Walter Acosta, who had been reported missing, according to forest district police spokesman Steve Mayberry.

After searching Bode Lake Forest Preserve on Monday and Tuesday, cadaver dogs were brought in on Wednesday. The body was located about 2:27 p.m. Wednesday.

Acosta, 34, of 556 Shagbark Dr. in Streamwood, was found floating in a lake in the forest preserve near Golf and Bartlett roads, a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

He was pronounced dead on the scene and may have committed suicide, the spokesman said. An autopsy was slated for Thursday.

Acosta was reported missing by his wife on Sunday after the couple had a domestic incident on Saturday 6 p.m. and Acosta walked away, Streamwood Police Deputy Chief Jim Gremo said.

The death does not appear to be suspicious in nature, Gremo said.

Cook County Sheriff's police are assisting Streamwood police with the investigation.
