16-Year-Old Male Charged With 4 Counts Of Armed Robbery
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
A second teenager has been charged in a string of robberies near Metra stations on the South Side.
The crimes took place in the 1000 block of East 87th and East 83rd streets between July 19 and July 30, according to police News Affairs.
The 16-year-old was arrested Monday and charged as an adult with four counts of armed robbery, the release said. He will appear in bond court (Br. 66) Wednesday, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
His alleged accomplice, Lee Mintz, 17, of the 8500 block of South Ingleside, was arrested last Wednesday and ordered held without bond on five counts of armed robbery, police said.
Metra Police supplied video surveillance photos and Calumet Area detectives were able to successfully identify the suspects, who were positively identified by the victims, according to police.
Six similar robberies occurred at Metra Electric Line stations between the 83rd and 95th stops on the South Chicago and University Park runs, according to Calumet Area police.
In all six cases, one to three men approached Metra riders and demanded money and personal property. No one was injured in any of the robberies.
