1 Man Shot Dead, 2 Wounded In Marquette Park
Vehicle Crashes After Shooting
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
A 19-year-old man was killed and two men in their 20s seriously injured when all three were shot in a vehicle that then crashed into parked car Thursday night in the Southwest Side's Marquette Park neighborhood.
The three men were sitting in a vehicle in an alley in the 2600 block of West 64th Street about 11:40 p.m., when a man walked up and began shooting into the vehicle, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.
Witnesses said the man in the drivers seat was able to accelerate out of the alley, but then slammed into a car parked on West 64th Street.
Charles Cortes, 19, of 6307 S. Rockwell St., died on the scene after being shot at 6408 S. Rockwell St., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 3:20 a.m.
Two other men, ages 20 and 26, were also shot, according to Kubiak, who said Cortes was the driver of the vehicle.
The two survivors were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight said.
The shooting in possibly gang-related, Kubiak said.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
