18-Year-Old Killed By Amtrak Train On NW Side
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
An Amtrak train fatally struck a man who reportedly fell on the tracks Saturday morning on the Northwest Side.
Joho Hiroyuki, 18, of an unidentified home address, was struck by a train at 6402 N. Lehigh Ave. and was dead on the scene, said the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. A Sunday autopsy concluded Hiroyuki died of injuries suffered from a pedestrian being struck by a train and the death was ruled an accident.
Amtrak train No. 330 struck a pedestrian at the Edgebrook station about 8 a.m., authorities said. Witnesses said Hiroyuki, who was carrying an over-the-shoulder briefcase and an umbrella, appeared to fall on the track.
Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said a woman also suffered a minor leg injury and was taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center in good condition.
It was not immediately known how the woman was injured, but one of three witnesses said a woman was hospitalized after being extremely distraught.
