Elderly Man Struck, Killed By Semi Truck
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
A man believed to be in his 70s was struck and killed by a semi truck on the Southwest Side Monday morning.
Fire department personnel responded at 9:47 a.m. to the accident, at 47th Street and South Western Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado. No ambulance transports were made from the scene, he said.
A pedestrian was struck by a semi truck, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. He had no additional details on the accident.
The pedestrian, a man believed to be in his 70s, subsequently died, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. His identity was unknown, as of about 1:30 p.m., according to the medical examiner's spokesman.
A portion of Western Avenue around the scene of the accident was closed to traffic while police investigated. As of about 12:50 p.m. traffic was still being diverted around the scene.
