Suspect Charged With Setting Man On Fire

Reginald Massonburg Charged With Heinous Battery, Resisting Arrest

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A man suspected of dousing another man with gasoline and lighting him on fire in early August in the Far South Side's Altgeld Gardens neighborhood has been charged in the incident, police said.

Reginald Massonburg, 52, of 11321 S. Wentworth Ave., was charged with heinous battery and two counts of resisting arrest, according to police. He was also charged in connection with an unidentified warrant, according to police who said the charges were approved Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Massonburg is accused of dousing a man in his 30s with gasoline and lighting the man on fire on Aug. 2 at 220 E. 134th St., according to police.

Massonburg was arrested Wednesday at 2:35 a.m. on the 28th on the Bishop Ford Freeway near East 111th Street where he was walking, according to police.

A Little Bit of Heaven, a homeless shelter is located at the Wentworth Avenue address.

Court information was not immediately available.
