A man was charged late Thursday for allegedly firing the shots that struck an 11-year-old girl who was sitting on a porch with her mother Tuesday night in the South Chicago neighborhood.
Cortez Easkiu, 20, of the 290 block of East 90th Street, is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak. Court information was not available early Friday afternoon.
About 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, the 11-year-old girl was sitting on the front porch of her home in the 8400 block of South Muskegon Avenue when a man emerged from across the street and began firing shots towards the house.
Both the mother and the girl attempted to run from the porch but the girl was hit in the left thigh, according to Kubiak.
The girl was transported to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, where she was listed in good condition, according to Kubiak.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
