Man Charged After Police Recover Guns, Drugs

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A South Side man has been charged with multiple counts of drug and gun possession after a Thursday night investigation led to the discovery of five guns in his car and home, police said.

Gary L. Brown, 33, of the 8300 block of South Aberdeen, was charged early Friday with five counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance and possession of cannabis, according to police News Affairs.

Brown was arrested after Gresham District police officers received a tip that weapons were being stored in the garage of a home in the 8300 block of South Aberdeen, police said.

As police approached his home through an alley at about 11 p.m., Brown was seen entering his garage with what appeared to be a gun in his hand.

He was stopped and questioned by police after pulling out of the garage into an alley. He was arrested after police found a small amount of cannabis, police said.

During the arrest, officers peered through Brown's car and saw a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and a Mac-10 in the front passenger seat, police said.

The officers also recovered a .22 caliber handgun and Tec-9 from his car along with ammunition and a plastic bag with "suspect" cocaine, police said.

Further investigation revealed a magnum revolver was hidden in the ceiling of the entrance of the man's basement just outside the home.

Bond information for Brown was not available Saturday morning. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at Far South Felony Court (Br. 38) at 1 p.m.
