State To Help Heat Low-Income Families' Homes
Federal Grant Awards $265 Million For Heating Cost Assistance
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
As temperatures fall, energy cost go up, but the State of Illinois is setting aside some extra money to help low-income families stay warm.
The state has been granted $265 million in federal funds to assist with families' winter heating costs, Gov. Rod Blagojevich said in a statement Sunday.
The grants come from the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
Applications for the money are available a network of community action agencies across the state. The program begins Nov. 1.
