Looptopia, an all-night festival held in the Loop in 2007 and 2008, has been discontinued. Five monthly festivals will take its place.

Looptopia, the all-night Loop celebration of dancing, nightclubbing and street theater, is no more, but partiers now get to whoop it up at five mini-Looptopias.
On the third Thursday of each month from May through September, the Chicago Loop Alliance will stage 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. celebrations at downtown hot spots, featuring popular programs from the city's past two Looptopias, said Ty Tabing, executive director of the Chicago Loop Alliance that promotes State Street and the downtown area.
"Each event will look different. We're creating fresh programming that captures the essence of the Loop as an emerging, creative destination," said Tabing, who will announce "Third Thursdays: Best of Looptopia" at today's Chicago Loop Alliance annual meeting.
The Thursday events will be staged near new venues such as the Art Institute's Modern Wing, slated to open May 16; the Wit Hotel, which will open in May at 201 N. State St. with a year-round rooftop bar and restaurant, and the newly resuscitated Pritzker Park at State and Van Buren.
State Street also will sport activities co-hosted by the Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium, and will showcase the city's centennial celebration and discussion of architect Daniel Burnham's plans for Chicago.
