CHICAGO (CBS) ― The young son of an illegal immigrant holed up in a Humboldt Park neighborhood church will address Mexico's Congress on Tuesday.

Saul Arellano, 7, left for Mexico City on Sunday morning. The second grader is lobbying Mexico's government to help his mother, Elvira Arellano, stay in the United States.

Saul was born in the United States, but his mother is not. She came to the United States illegally and was told by authorities to surrender last August.

But instead, Elvira Arellano is holed up at the Adalberto United Methodist Church on West Division Street, where the longtime political activist Rev. Walter "Slim" Coleman is pastor.

For months, Saul has been talking to U.S. lawmakers and asking them for help. He has even made several trips to Washington D.C. hoping to talk to President Bush.

Saul did not get a meeting President Bush, but he's hoping to have more success with Mexican lawmakers, who are currently considering a resolution which would force Mexican President Vicente Fox to help Elvira and others in similar situations.

Elvira Arellano said when Saul left that she was very happy about what her son is doing to help her, but she feared she could be arrested and deported while he's gone. It's a fear shared by her son, but her supporters here in Chicago say they will not let that happen.
