Family Holds Fundraiser Walk For Lisa Stebic

PLAINFIELD, Ill. (AP) ― The husband of a suburban Chicago woman who's been missing for nearly a year is asking a court to force police to return guns and cars seized by investigators.

Craig Stebic, whose wife Lisa was last seen in late April, hopes Will County Judge Richard Schoenstedt will order police to return 24 guns, a Chevrolet pickup truck and a Saturn Ion.

"Mr. Stebic has remained patient for more than nine months without making a request for the return of his vehicles and firearms," said lawyer George Lenard. "However, we now feel that it is time to have that property returned."

Craig Stebic has been named a "person of interest" in the search for his 37-year-old wife and police have said they believe the mother of two was a victim of foul play.

Craig Stebic has not been charged in connection with the case, which is still classified as a missing person's investigation.

Stebic's request on Thursday came one day after Schoenstedt ordered police to return items seized from another suburban Chicago man who is also suspected in the mysterious disappearance of his wife.

On Wednesday, Schoenstedt said police had 30 days to return guns and computers to former Bolingbrook police officer Drew Peterson.

Peterson's wife Stacy disappeared this fall and he's been named a suspect in the case, which police say is a possible homicide.

Drew Peterson has not been charged with any wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, Lisa Stebic's friends and family said they're planning a charity walk next month to mark the one-year anniversary of her disappearance.

Family spokeswoman Melanie Greenberg said Lisa Stebic's parents developed the idea for the fundraiser that will benefit local domestic violence prevention agencies.

"It's been a difficult year for them," Greenberg said. "But I know that the warmth of the community is going to do so much for them."

Stebic's family will host "Lisa's Walk for Guardian Angel Community Services" on April 27 at 1 p.m. at the Village Green, 648 W. Chicago St., Plainfield. The special event will benefit Guardian Angel Community Services of Joliet.

According to a press release from the Stebic family, the fundraiser's purpose is to raise awareness of domestic violence.
