1 Year Anniversary Of Lisa Stebic's Disappearance
Plainfield Mother's Husband A Person Of Interest
PLAINFIELD, Ill. (CBS) ―
Wednesday marks the one-year anniversary of Lisa Stebic's disappearance. The mystery haunts her family, and her husband remains a person of interest in the case.
CBS 2's Susan Carlson reports Lisa Stebic's family was together Wednesday night, marking the anniversary with close friends and a rabbi. They say it feels like it was just yesterday that she disappeared and their emotions are just as raw.
"It's been devastating for this family," said Lisa Stebic's cousin Melanie Greenberg.
One year later the family struggles to cope with an unthinkable loss.
Lisa was last seen at her home April 30, 2007. At the time, divorce proceedings were pending against her husband, Craig.
"Lisa sent her lawyer papers to try to evict her husband, Craig, on the day that she went missing. And today we will
think about how she was almost free, and what might have been," Greenberg said.
Roses line the lawn of the house across the street from the Stebic property. Most have eerie notes attached calling Craig Stebic guilty in the disappearance.
Plainfield police still consider him a person of interest and are following up on multiple leads.
"Certainly leads and tips come in on a daily basis," said Plainfield Police Department Sgt. Troy Kivisto. "We still continue to investigate all leads that come in."
But they are still no closer to finding Lisa Stebic's body.
The family says what makes it worse is not being allowed to see her children.
"Those two precious children aged 11 and 13 are all that we have left of Lisa," Greenberg said. "It just makes this anniversary even harder."
Police are again asking anyone with information to please come forward.
"We welcome anyone with assistance to contact the Plainfield Police Department," Kivisto said.
A $75,000 reward is being offered for information in the case.
The family is also encouraged that Lisa Stebic was added to the FBI's list of missing persons, a Web site viewed by 2 million people every month.
