$300K Bond For Alleged Lincoln Park Gunman
Police: Juan Valle Shot Man Who Tried To Break Up Argument
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Bond was set at $300,000 Thursday for a 23-year-old charged with shooting of a man who tried to break up a fight Friday night in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
Cook County Associate Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. set the bond Thursday afternoon for Juan Valle of 1901 N. Larrabee St., who is charged with one count each of aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm, both felonies, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
Valle, who was charged Wednesday night, is accused of shooting a man who tried to break up a fight on Aug. 22, according to police News Affairs.
The victim saw two people in a physical altercation about 10:15 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Vine Street and tried to break them up, Conklin said, citing court records. The man who was being attacked ran away, and the other man got into a car and fired a gun as he was driving away.
The victim was shot once in the upper torso, and the bullet remains lodged in his body, according to court records, Conklin said.
The 22-year-old was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition and upgraded to good condition Saturday, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.
Valle turned himself in to police on Aug. 26 after detectives identified him as the shooter, according to News Affairs. The victim identified Valle in a line-up, according to court records.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 2 in North Felony Court (Br. 42) at 2452 W. Belmont, Conklin said.
