Tarek El-Hila, 30, was shot and killed by police at his home on North Leavitt Street, after he allegedly came at them with a knife.

A domestic incident in the Lincoln Square neighborhood ended with a man being shot and killed by police.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. Thursday in the 5100 block of North Leavitt Street. Tarek El-Hila, 30, of was shot multiple times at his home in that block.
About 9:10 p.m., Lincoln District uniformed officers responded to a call of a person with a knife in a domestic-related incident, according to a statement from police News Affairs. Family members met responding officers in front of the residence, and one of the family members allowed the officers entry to the first floor apartment, the statement said.
Once inside, the officers announced their office and were confronted by the man, who was standing with a large knife in his hand. The officers ordered him to drop the knife, but instead he allegedly ran at the officers using the knife in a striking motion, according to the statement.
When this happened, the officers shot El-Hila. He was pronounced dead at 10:06 p.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for later Friday.
The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
