Link Between Shoes And Leadership Potential
Study Shows Those Who Buy 3 Or More Pairs Of Sneakers Annually Are Natural Leaders
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
It's been said you can tell a lot about a person by her shoes. And now, as CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports, shoes may also say something about who takes the lead in a crisis and who follows in another's footsteps.
New research suggests those buying three pairs of sneakers a year are more likely to be walking in the shoes of a serious leader.
In her comfortable Converse All Stars, actress Allison Kelley reaches a converse conclusion.
"Casual, carefree, I don't take myself too seriously -- that's what I hope my shoes say about me," Kelley said.
Loosely laced John Eisenrich says his shoes make a similar statement.
"I work well with the team is the thing; I am not necessarily pointing which direction but I got cab fare if we're going," he said.
At Fleet Feet sports they're serious about athletic shoes, and so are the many movers and shakers buying multiple pairs there.
"None of this surprises me at all," said Fleet Feet's Dave Zimmer. "The competitive nature of CEOs and the business community that really meshes well together."
Gov. Rod Blagojevich is a more-than-three-pair shopper at Fleet Feet, and so is uber sales executive Christine Bowman, who was on Thursday purchasing her sixth pair of athletic shoes.
"I thrive better in chaos," Bowman said. "I like to be busy; I am always multi-tasking."
On the street Eisenrich ties up the lose ends in this story.
"I bought these after my girlfriend broke up with me," he said. "We're back together now and she loves them. If they can tie our lives as well as our souls to our ankles, God bless them."
