5 Hospitalized After North Lake Shore Drive Crash

Accident Causes Backups For Hours

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Five people were hospitalized Friday morning after a multi-vehicle pile-up on North Lake Shore Drive.

The crash was reported around 6:10 a.m. on southbound Lake Shore Drive at Addison Street, authorities said. Seven cars were involved.

Five of them were taken to area hospitals, all reported in fair condition, fire officials said. Two people were taken to Saint Joseph Hospital, and one person was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Thorek Memorial Hospital, and Weiss Memorial Hospital, Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado said.

The crash was still causing backups on Lake Shore Drive as late as 8 a.m.
