The men behind a blockbuster Hollywood movie came to Chicago Wednesday so the stars and director could say thank you to real-life heroes here.
CBS 2's Bill Zwecker was there as Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher, who play coast guard members in the new movie ''The Guardian,'' met real-life Chicago-area guardians.
"When you're doing a movie and you're representing real guys, there's an added pressure," Kutcher said.
"It's not so sexy, but it's selfless," Costner added. "And when you see a selfless act, when you see an actual human being throw themselves in a position where their life is really at risk to save another, it makes you proud."
Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner both say they felt a responsibility to bring the Coast Guard's unsung heroes into the spotlight. And that's why they are touring coast guard stations across the country -- to thank those brave men and women who risk their lives every day.
"It's comforting to know that somewhere in the world... even my own children, even my own friends, if they're ever in trouble there's a group of individuals dedicated to the idea that they're not going to let them pass," Costner said.
For director Andrew Davis, who shot "The Fugitive" here and is from Chicago, this tour for "The Guardian" provided him with a valuable opportunity to come home.
"When they said there's a station out at Lake Calumet, I just started laughing," Davis said. "Harrison Ford's hideout was about six blocks from here in 'The Fugitive.' I shot three or four of my movies in this area. I worked at the mills nearby here. So it's great coming home and seeing Chicago. The city's never looked better."
And that's what Wednesday was really all about -- Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner here to pay tribute to their heroes, their stars: the men that they represent in "The Guardian."
