An off-duty Chicago Police officer is dead in a crash early Monday on the outbound Kennedy Expressway near Nagle Avenue.
The crash happened at 3:47 a.m. on the Kennedy between the Nagle and Foster Avenue exits.
Illinois State Police confirm to CBS 2 that the person killed in the crash was an off-duty Chicago Police officer.
The officer is identified as Eric Berger. He was pronounced dead at 4:42 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Berger, 52, worked in the Albany Park District, state police said.
The motorist may have lost control on a curve at Bryn Mawr Avenue at which point he rolled the 2007 Volkswagen 2-door hatchbatch he was driving and was ejected, according to ISP District Chicago Master Sgt. Todd Borisy, who was citing preliminary information.
The man was dead on arrival, according to Borisy.
As of the 5 a.m. hour, two left lanes were blocked due to the crash. Earlier, all the outbound lanes were closed.
