Kennedy Shut Down When Woman Threatens To Jump
Woman Brought To Safety, Expressway Reopened
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Authorities shut down the Kennedy Expressway west of downtown Wednesday afternoon due to someone threatening to jump from an overpass.
The Kennedy was completely shut down in both directions near Hubbard's Cave. A woman was waiting to jump off the Hubbard Street overpass onto the expressway.
Illinois State and Chicago Police responded to the scene and ordered a "jump bag" to place onto the roadway, which would potentially break the woman's fall.
Police ultimately got the woman down to safety and were about to reopen the expressway at 1:30 p.m. But traffic remained gridlocked.
