Man Jumps From CHA Window, Injures 2 Officers

CHICAGO (STNG) ― Two Chicago Police officers suffered injuries when a 21-year-old man jumped out a CHA building window and landed on the officers Monday night, police said.

The incident happened at 10:20 p.m. at 816 N. Cleveland Ave. at the CHA's Cabrini-Green Rowhouses on the Near North Side, according to Belmont Area police.

Two male police officers were coming to a residence to arrest Rasheed Lewis, 21, on an outstanding warrant for cannabis when Lewis jumped from a second floor window and landed on the officers that were stationed at the back of the building, police said.

Lewis landed on the officers, injuring both, and continued to flee. He was apprehended by police shortly afterward.

One officer suffered scratches, a swollen left shoulder and a fractured left knee cap, according to police. The other officer suffered a sprain wrist.

Lewis, of the 5600 block of South Normal Boulevard, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery, police said.

Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
