2 Murdered In Joliet Home; 2-Year-Old Unharmed

JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) ― The husband and wife who were found shot to death -- the apparent victims of a double homicide -- in their Joliet home Monday have been identified.

The couple was discovered in their home in the 200 block of Louis Road, authorities said.

Angela R. Charles, 23, was found dead with a single gunshot wound and Brian J. Charles, 31, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Will County Coroner's office. Both were pronounced dead at the home at 10:25 a.m.

The couple's 2-year-old son was found unharmed in his crib. The child was taken to the county police facility on Laraway Road and is now in the custody of DCFS. He is said to be in "excellent condition," according to Will County Sheriff's office. Two other children were apparently away for the weekend.

Illinois Department of Children and Family Services spokesman Kendall Marlowe said the family was previously investigated for allegations of neglect in Dec. 3, 2008. There was no contact with the family prior to the December allegation, and Marlowe had no comment on the two other other children living in the home.

Pat Barry, spokesman for the Will County Sheriff's Department, said no weapon has been found at the home.

Barry said the man's ex-wife discovered his body about 7 a.m. when she came to the home to pick up some movies. She called police. When police arrived, they found the woman's body in another room.

Neighbors said two children, ages 7 and 10 and students at Laraway School, also lived in the home. Police said those children spend the weekends with their mother. Barry said the couple was last seen at a gathering on Saturday night.

Property records indicate the home at 205 Louis Road was purchased by Brian J. Charles and Angela Rickenbacker.

Neighbor Germaine Grant identified the couple as Brian and Angie Charles. Grant believes his daughter may have heard the gunfire.

"She heard something about 2:30, 3 in the morning. She heard a boom, some type of bang, she came in our room, and grabbed my youngest daughter out the bed, cause she was scared. She heard something around that time. I didn't think nothing of it, went back to sleep," said Grant.

Neighbors said police cars were on the scene when they awoke.

The Will County Sheriff's Office said there was no sign of forced entry at the house and nothing appears to have been taken. For that reason, they do not believe this was a random crime. They say the victims probably knew their killer.

Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.
