Skokie Jewish Center Prays For Couple In Mumbai

SKOKIE, Ill. (AP) ― The attacks by militant gunmen in Mumbai, India, prompted a prayer service at a Jewish center in Illinois with ties to one of the targeted sites.

The Lubavitch Chabad center in Skokie held prayers for Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg, who were believed to be inside the Mumbai headquarters of the ultra-orthodox Jewish outreach group when it was seized.

About 250 people came to pray after hearing the news through e-mail alerts.

The Holtzbergs are not from Illinois, but many in the closeknit group had met them and were grateful to hear the couple's toddler son is presumed safe.

Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz of the Skokie center describes Rabbi Holtzberg as compassionate and strong.
