Man Pleads Innocent In Girls' Stabbing Deaths

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) ― A 34-year-old man has pleaded innocent to first-degree murder charges in the Mother's Day stabbing deaths of his young daughter and her best friend at a park in Zion.

Lake County Public Defender Daniel Brodsky says the plea was entered today in Lake County court on behalf of Jerry Hobbs, who didn't speak during the short arraignment.

Hobbs is accused of killing his eight-year-old daughter, Laura Hobbs, and nine-year-old Krystal Tobias at a park near their homes on May Eighth.

Prosecutors contend Hobbs killed them in a fit of rage because his daughter refused to listen to him when he ordered her to leave the park and return home.

Hobbs' next court date is set for July 15th.
