Grand Jury Indicts Man Of Killing Zion Girls
WAUKEGAN (AP) ―
A grand jury today has indicted a man on charges of first-degree murder in last month's slayings of his young daughter and another girl Zion.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Jeff Pavletic says the grand jury returned what's called a true bill against 34-year-old Jerry Hobbs after prosecutors presented evidence today.
Hobbs is accused of beating and stabbing to death eight-year-old Laura Hobbs and her nine-year-old friend, Krystal Tobias, on Mother's Day.
Authorities say Hobbs admitted killing the girls in a Zion park after his daughter refused to come home with him.
Hobbs was recently released from a Texas prison and has a lengthy criminal record.
If convicted, Hobbs is eligible for capital punishment. But prosecutors haven't said if they'll seek the death penalty.
