Given Jennifer Hudson's celebrity status, it's not surprising that along with the general public, the Oscar winner's famous friends are also weighing in on the tragedy that hit her family on Friday.
Chicago Sun-Times columnist and CBS 2 Entertainment Reporter Bill Zwecker reports Hudson obviously is well-known throughout the entertainment world. And Monday, many celebrities expressed their shock over the tragic shooting deaths of her mother, brother and nephew.
"It's hard to describe how sad I think everybody is, because Jennifer Hudson as the most amazing spirit and she is so humble and I think that humility comes from her family who is her rock, said "The View" co-host Sherri Shepherd.
That reaction is coming from many stars of Hollywood and the music world. After a year in which Hudson's skyrocketing career included another hit film -- "Sex and the City" -- plus a chart-topping new album and single, the South Side native's life has been suddenly and very violently altered forever.
One of Hudson's closest friends in show business flew to her side Monday. Felicia Fields, who co-starred with Hudson in "Big River" at the Marriott Lincolnshire Theater in 2001, took a break from her starring role in the national tour of "The Color Purple", to fly back to Chicago. Fields has said that nothing is more important than being by her friend's side as she attempts to cope with this enormous family tragedy.
Also expressing sorrow over Hudson's loss was singer Fergie of the Black-Eyed Peas.
"I think it's horrible," Fergie said. "I read it and I think it's shocking. For anybody to go through that. Wow. I don't understand how a human being could have such little respect for life."
Even Cedric the Entertainer -- a star who is only slightly acquainted with Hudson -- expressed a feeling everyone can relate to, whether or not they've ever met Hudson.
"I definitely have condolences for her. That's really tragic. You hate to hear that happen to anybody -- something like that," he said.
Hudson has heard from many of her former co-stars -- including Beyonce, Sarah Jessica Parker, Dakota Fanning and Queen Latifah.
