Jelly Belly Factory Worker Crushed By Forklift

Ismael Reyes-Calderon Was Caught Between Forklift, Candy Palette

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (Lake County News-Sun) ― A Jelly Belly factory employee died late Wednesday night as a result of being involved in a forklift accident.

Ismael Reyes-Calderon, 51, of the 700 block of S. Lincoln Avenue in Waukegan, got caught between a forklift and a candy palette at the North Chicago factory and was crushed, said Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller.

Reyes-Calderon was discovered by co-workers and they contacted rescue personnel.

He was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead at 10:20 p.m., Keller said.

An autopsy is scheduled Thursday.
