4 Shot In Separate Incidents On Southeast Side

CHICAGO (STNG) ― Four people were shot Tuesday evening in two separate shootings on the Southeast Side, including a drive-by shooting that injured a 9-year-old boy and a fatal shooting in a Southeast Side hospital parking lot. Police say the victims may have been targeted in both shootings.

The first shooting was reported about 5:40 p.m. in the 7800 block of South Constance Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford. He said two people were shot, with a 9-year-old boy suffering a graze wound, and a 22-year-old male suffering wounds to the leg and arm.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds and the boy was taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

The vehicle involved in the shooting fled the scene following the shooting and was involved in a crash on 74th Place and Blackstone Avenue, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

Police responded to the crash and found a vehicle matching the description of the shooter's vehicle. Police took a man in custody and recovered two handguns from the vehicle, Mirabelli said.

Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said crews responded to the accident at 7411 S. Blackstone after 5:40 p.m.

Less than a mile away, two people were shot in the 7500 block of South Stony Island Avenue, according to Mirabelli, who said the victims may have known the offenders and may have been targeted.

Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said a woman was shot in the parking lot of Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center at 7531 S. Stony Island Ave. around 6:10 p.m.

Killed was Deloris Myrick, of 7601 S. Paxton Ave., who was pronounced dead Jackson Park Hospital at 7:09 p.m., according to a Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokesman.

The shooting was witnessed by the driver of a private ambulance, he said. No Fire Dept. or other emergency personnel were injured.

A man was also shot at the address and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital and remains in serious condition Tuesday night, Mirabelli said.

"Apparently the victims may have been known to their offenders, similar to the 78th and Constance incident," Mirabelli said. "They may have been targeted."

Calumet Area detectives are investigating both shootings.
