Two iron workers were charged Friday with beating and critically injuring a 67-year-old man at an Uptown gym Nov. 9 on the North Side, police said.
Paul Velez, 29, of 3401 S. 61st Court in Cicero, and Todd Krasnow, 33, of 15788 Sherman St. in Lowell, Ind., were each charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery, according to police.
The incident occurred about 5:35 a.m. Nov. 9 at the World Gym at 909 W. Montrose Ave. The men were arrested Thursday and the charges were approved at 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to a police report.
The 67-year-old man told police he was having an "ongoing ordeal" with Velez and Krasnow, who work out daily at the gym, according to the report.
The two are suspected of repeatedly kicking and punching the man, who was taken to an unidentified hospital in critical condition with multiple contusions to the head and torso, a hemorrhage and internal injuries, according to the report.
The man said the two worked across the street at a construction site at North Broadway and West Montrose Avenue. The two identified themselves to police as iron workers.
Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
