International Student Missing From Suburb

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (STNG) ― A 20-year-old international student from Vietnam remains missing Monday after she disappeared early last week from west suburban River Forest.

Police believe the woman was not abducted, and foul play is not suspected, River Forest Deputy Chief Dan Dhooghe.

"There were no signs of struggle," Dhooghe said.

The deputy chief said the student took certain items from her room at Concordia University that indicated she was planning to leave. Her roommate told police what items were missing from the room, Dhooghe said.

"She left some belongings, and took other things," the deputy chief said.

Trang Nguyen was reported missing Thursday Oct. 9 after her aunt couldn't contact her, but hasn't been seen since Tuesday Oct. 7, Dhooghe said.

Nguyen was studying English at ELS English Language Services on a student visa, and being housed at Concordia University in River Forest, said university spokeswoman Kim McCullough. The university provides housing to more than 20 students attending ELS English Language Services.

According to the deputy chief, the woman had been in the country for six weeks, and did not know many people. Since she arrived recently from Vietnam her visa was not set to expire for another year.

It is unknown whether Nguyen had a significant other, the deputy chief said.
