Man, Woman Killed In Motorcycle Crash On I-80
Man On Second Motorcycle Severely Injured
JOLIET, Ill. (STNG) ―
A man and women were killed when the motorcycle they were riding crashed with a semi truck on I-80 early Thursday near southwest suburban Joliet, State Police said.
A man on a second motorcycle was also hospitalized with serious injuries.
A motorcycle and semi truck collided in the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Larkin Avenue about 2:25 a.m., according to Illinois State Police Joliet District Master Sgt. Cheryl Lisy.
A man and woman on that motorcycle were killed in the crash, according to Lisy, who was not releasing their names pending family notification. The Will County Coroner was on the scene at 4 a.m.
A second motorcycle crashed after striking the debris created by the initial crash, Lisy said. The second motorcycle is not believed to be connected to the one that collided with the semi.
The man driving the second motorcycle was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet with serious injuries, Lisy said.
The semi truck driver was not hurt.
All eastbound lanes remained closed for almost two hours, but all lanes are expected to reopen about 4:15 a.m., Lisy.
State Police remained on the scene early Thursday and the cause of the crash remained under investigation. No citations had been issued as of 4 a.m.
