House Of Blues Employee Pleads Guilty To Scuffle
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
A security guard for the House of Blues pleaded guilty Thursday to misdemeanor battery in a scuffle with a young woman outside the nightclub last month. The incident was captured on video and posted online.
Darrell Gibson, 31,
was arrested outside the club around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 after allegedly knocking the woman to the ground after a Hanson concert.
Gibson pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery on Thursday and was sentenced to one year of court supervision and five days of community service, prosecutors said. He must also take anger management classes and may not have any contact with the victim.
A video of the scuffle popped up on YouTube last month. It shows a woman being knocked to the ground. A CBS 2 viewer sent a link to the clip on YouTube; it was described as "Hanson fan being assaulted by House of Blues staffer."
You can hear a man, now identified as Gibson, arguing with a woman over a camera. Then Gibson shoves the woman to the ground.
Live Nation owns the House of Blues. After the incident, a spokesman issued two statements:
"An incident occurred on Monday night outside House of Blues involving an individual and a security guard. We take our responsibility to maintain the safety of both our patrons and the artists who play at the House of Blues very seriously. We are looking into the incident and will cooperate fully with the authorities."
"Employees involved in the incident have been suspended pending an investigation."
The spokesman said he did not know how many employees were involved, other than Gibson. Gibson's current employment status is unknown.
The victim's attorney told CBS 2 News on Thursday that the young woman was not ready to give an interview about the incident.
