Fire Breaks Out In South Loop High-Rise
No One Injured In Blaze On Vacant Floor
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
Nobody was injured Thursday night when a fire broke out in the unoccupied 30th floor of a South Loop high-rise.
The fire started on the 30th floor of a condo building at 1720 S. Michigan Ave. about 9:40 p.m., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.
Firefighters accessed the building's sprinkler system to douse the fire on the 30th floor, and it was out by 10:11 p.m., Roccasalva said.
Some residents evacuated the building voluntarily, but nobody was injured during the fire in the 33-floor condo building, Roccasalva said.
The building is only partially occupied and is still under construction. No workers or residents were present in the upper floors of the building Thursday night, and a cause of the fire is under investigation.
