Three People Die From Heat Stroke

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― An Indiana man, a South Side 10-year-old girl and a woman from the Far West Side have all died, at least in part, to the heat, autopsies confirmed Friday afternoon.

Keiavya Marzette, 10, of the 6400 block S. Morgan St., died of heat stroke after she was found at 9345 S. Green St., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, which performed an autopsy Friday.

A secondary cause of death for Keiavya, who was pronounced dead at 1:35 p.m. Thursday at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, was listed as cerebral palsy and her death was ruled an accident.

In an unrelated case, 32-year-old Kale Westerhoff, of the 300 block of Wright St. in Crown Point, Ind., also died of heat stroke, according to the medical examiner's office.

Westerhoff was pronounced dead at St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Chicago Heights at 9:11 a.m. Thursday, according to the medical examiner's office, which also ruled his death an accident.

Westerhoff, was working on a roof at 1379 Main St. in Crete when he passed out about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

The Crete Fire Department responded to reports of a worker passed out at the Main Street address, according to Crete fire officials.

In a third unrelated incident, Gloria Woods, 59, of the 5900 block of West Rice St., who was pronounced dead early Friday at her Far West Side home, died of heart disease, and a secondary cause was listed as diabetes mellitus and heat stress, according to the medical examiner's office which ruled her death an accident.
