A string of bank robberies all over the Midwest in the 1930s led John Dillinger to be named Public Enemy No. 1. He was gunned down by FBI agents at the Biograph Theatre on Lincoln Avenue in 1934.

A gun that helped end the bank robbing career of John Dillinger is going to the highest bidder.
The .38-caliber, 5-inch barrel gun that a police officer used when Dillinger was shot dead outside the Biograph Theater in 1934 is going to be auctioned July 28.
The auction comes just a few weeks after the release of a film about Dillinger called "Public Enemies."
An Indiana police captain used the gun when he opened fire along with three FBI agents and another Indiana cop as Dillinger left the Biograph with the "lady in red."
The auction is being held by Chicago's Leslie Hindman Auctioneers.
Because handguns are illegal in Chicago, the image of the weapon will be projected on a screen. If anyone wants to see the gun they must go to Shore Galleries in nearby Lincolnwood.
