Economy Is Awful, But Gas Is Cheap

Gas Averages $2.234 In City Of Chicago

CHICAGO (STNG) ― While the economy overall continues to struggle, area motorists are getting some relief at the pumps.

AAA Chicago's most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has decreased $1.04 during the past month, and forecasts an average cost of $2.26 per gallon for November, which is 91 cents lower than last year.

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $2.19, down 99 cents from October and down 93 cents from a year ago. In some areas of northern Indiana, AAA reports, gas has dipped below $2 a gallon.

Fuel prices have fallen steadily since mid-October as crude oil prices have dropped and inventory levels remain high, according to a release from AAA Chicago.

-- In Cook County, self-serve regular unleaded averages $2.52, down $1.08 compared to last month and 72 cents from last year. In the city of Chicago, gas was averaging $2.234 a gallon as of Tuesday, according to AAA.

-- In DuPage County, self-serve regular unleaded averages $2.37 per gallon, a decrease of $1.09 from October and 78 cents from last year.

-- In Kane County, self-serve regular unleaded averages $2.37 per gallon, $1.04 lower than last month and 78 cents lower than October 2007.

-- In Will County, self-serve regular unleaded averages $2.32 per gallon, $1.15 lower than last month and 85 cents lower than a year ago.

-- In north suburban Lake County, self-serve regular unleaded averages $2.34 per gallon, $1.02 lower than last month and 80 cents lower than this time last year.

-- In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded is $2.19 per gallon, a $1.01 decrease from October' and a 94-cent decrease from a year ago. In Gary, as of Tuesday morning, gas was averaging $2.004 a gallon.

In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded averages $2.18 per gallon, 93 cents lower than last month and 91 cents lower than last year.
