Gallery Owner Commits Suicide At Police Station

Billy Hork was Found Dead In Pickup Truck On Tuesday

A Winnetka art gallery founder died Tuesday after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a north suburban police station garage.

William V. Hork, 62, was reported missing by his wife at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to Northfield police. Shortly before 6 p.m., a Northfield patrol officer found Hork's pickup parked near the police garage on Walnut Avenue in downtown Northfield.

Hork was inside, dead of a gunshot wound, and a handgun with a single shot fired was found at the scene, police said.

Hork, of 28 Meadowview Dr. in Winnetka, was pronounced dead on the scene at 350 Walnut Ave., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy Wednesday determined he died of a gunshot wound to the head. His death has been ruled a suicide, the medical examiner's office said.

Hork was president and founder of Billy Hork galleries, at 3033 N. Clark St. in Chicago.

Northfield police Chief William Lustig said a note was found in the truck and evidence indicates the shooting was a suicide, not the result of foul play.

Hork is survived by his wife and two adult children, police said.
