The former head of the Chicago Transit Authority has a new post, representing the City of Chicago in Washington.
Mayor Richard M. Daley appointed Frank Kruesi as Chicago's chief lobbyist on Capitol Hill. His appointment was announced in a statement released Thursday while Daley is traveling in Italy.
In the statement, Daley said Kruesi has broad experience at every level of government and will make sure the city's relationship with federal government is productive. Kruesi is replacing longtime political operative Pete Halpin.
Kruesi's 10-year stint as president of the CTA ended in April. At the time, he denied his stepping down had anything to do with him becoming a lightning rod for lawmakers and riders fed up with derailments, mechanical breakdowns and service delays.
The mayor's announcement Thursday noted that under Kruesi, CTA ridership increased, bus routes were modernized and the CTA's work force was reduced by 1,200 employees.
