Small Boy Dead From Injuries In June Fire
DCFS Investigation Launched
FOX LAKE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of neglect after a 2-year-old boy northwest suburban boy died Wednesday as a result of injuries suffered in a June fire.
Preston Cooper of 29 S. York Rd. in Fox Lake was pronounced dead at 9:02 p.m. Wednesday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, which said he apparently died of injuries suffered in fire.
The fire started around 12:51 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11 in the kitchen of the home. Fox Lake Deputy Fire Chief Larry Van Hoorelbeke said five other people in the residence escaped the home without injury.
DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlowe said the agency is investigating allegations of neglect, but has had no prior contact with the family.
DCFS started its investigation the day of the fire, Marlowe said, adding there were no other children in the family.
Several departments from Lake and McHenry counties battled the blaze for more than 45 minutes before finally extinguishing the fire, for which no damage estimates were available, Van Hoorelbeke said on July 12.
A Fox Lake firefighter was unable to provide further details Thursday morning.
