Firefighter Injured In West Suburban Warehouse
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling a Saturday morning blaze in a west suburban warehouse that caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.
Emergency crews responded to the Sun Chemical manufacturing facility, 2445 Productive Dr. in St. Charles, about 9:06 a.m. on a report of a fire, according to a release from the St. Charles Fire Department.
An installed sprinkler system was already operating as firefighters arrived. Crews confirmed a fire in the high rack storage units in the warehouse and applied additional hose streams to put the fire out, the release said.
All employees of the company were able to exit the building safely but one firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling the fire, the release said.
The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages, the release said.
The Sun Chemical Company specializes in manufacturing printing ink, according to an online business directory.
The St. Charles Fire Dept. was assisted by the Geneva, Batavia and Elburn fire departments.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
