Fight Turns Deadly For South Side Man

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A 31-year-old man was fatally shot during a fight Friday afternoon in the Auburn Gresham community on the South Side.

The man was shot at 2:45 p.m. on West 79th Street between South Laflin and South Justine streets, according to Gresham District police Capt. James O'Donnell.

The victim, identified as Dexter Blaylock, of 7221 S. Hermitage Ave., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 3:38 p.m.

Blaylock was engaged in a verbal fight with someone and the fight escalated when the other man took out a gun and fired at him, according to police News Affairs.

Blaylock suffered multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Police say the shooter fled the scene on foot.

The motive for the killing is unknown and a description of the shooter was not available, according to the captain.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
