Fenger Student Caught With Gun Near Another School
Teen Was Outside Leo High School
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A Fenger High School student was arrested after he was allegedly seen walking outside another school with the butt of a gun protruding from his waistband Monday afternoon in the South Side's Auburn -Gresham neighborhood, police said.
The 15-year-old boy was charged with felony unlawful use/possession of a weapon, according to police. His name was not being released because he is a juvenile.
The teen was arrested at 2 p.m. Monday at 7910 S. Sangamon St. -- outside Leo High School -- after someone saw him allegedly walking down the street with the butt of a gun protruding from his waistband.
Responding officers apprehended him after a short foot chase, according to police, who said the teen did not fire the gun during the incident.
Court information was not immediately available.
Fenger High School has been in the headlines over the past month as the school that Derrion Albert, 16, attended. He was beaten to death last month by other Fenger students, and the unrest and violence at the school has become the subject of national attention.
