Man Stabbed To Death In Home Invasion
Girlfriend, Baby Were Both Home When Arnell Elam Was Killed In Chicago Heights Home
CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Illl. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
The girlfriend and baby of a 21-year-old man were both home when the man was fatally stabbed in a home invasion in south suburban Chicago Heights late Tuesday.
Police received a 911 call about 11:50 p.m. alerting them to a home invasion at the two-story house at 68 W. 19th St., according to Chicago Heights police Lt. Michael Romano.
A 21-year-old man who lives at the house was found fatally stabbed in the basement. The man's girlfriend and their baby -- who were uninjured -- were also at the house, Romano said. It was unknown who made the 911 call.
Arnell Elam was pronounced dead at his home at 2:55 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy is slated for later Wednesday.
At 4:30 a.m., detectives were interviewing the girlfriend, 19.
Romano said police responded to a home invasion, but it was not clear how the house was broken into or if anything was taken. It was also unknown what type of weapon was used or if it was found on the scene.
The house has a "For Sale" sign in front of it, the lieutenant said.
No arrests have been made and a motive for the slaying was unknown, Romano said.
