Man Dies In Chicago Ridge Forklift Accident
Jesus Hernandez-Blas Was Struck In The Head
CHICAGO RIDGE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A Chicago Lawn neighborhood man died when he was struck in the head by a forklift late Monday while working in an industrial park in southwest suburban Chicago Ridge.
Shortly before midnight, Jesus Hernandez-Blas was working at 10111 Anderson Ave. as an employee of Resource Management when he was killed in an accident with one of the vehicles, Chicago Ridge Police Chief Tim Baldermann said.
Hernandez-Blas, 26, of 6048 S. Sacramento Ave., was working in an industrial park located at the Anderson Avenue address when he was struck in the head by a forklift, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Hernandez-Blas was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the spokesman.
Resource Management is a recycling company, according to its Web site.
The driver of the forklift has been very cooperative and did submitted to an alcohol test which he passed, Baldermann said.
"At this point we think it was accidental but we are still looking into why the driver didn't see [Hernandez-Blas]," Baldermann said.
An autopsy Tuesday found that Hernandez-Blas died from cranio-cerebral injuries from a forklift accident and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
The dense fog may have contributed to the incident, authorities said.
