Collector For Mob Video Poker Company Sentenced

CHICAGO (AP) ― An employee of the mob's illegal video poker racket in suburban Chicago was sentenced Thursday to 40 months in federal prison.

Joseph Venezia, 65, a bit player in the federal government's landmark Operation Family Secrets mob murder case, also must serve three years of probation after he finishes his sentence.

Judge James B. Zagel brushed aside arguments that Venezia should get a break because he was a good family man.

"He is a good family man and a good neighbor," Zagel said. "He is not a good citizen."

Venezia pleaded guilty to gambling and tax offenses. He was not implicated in any of the 18 murders allegedly committed by co-defendants.
