Ice Problem Reduces Available Water In Evanston
Residents Asked To Conserve Water
EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) ―
Officials in north suburban Evanston are asking people to conserve water because ice on intake pipes on Lake Michigan limited the amount of water available for much of the day.
The City of Evanston issued an urgent news release Friday morning, informing residents that the city Water Treatment Facility had frazil ice crystals and submerged anchor ice on the intake pipes.
That reduced the volume of water that could be drawn from Lake Michigan, and thus, reduced the water flow to homes and businesses, Evanston officials said.
Officials asked Evanston residents for help in "conserving all nonessential water usage, such as laundry, dishwashing, etc. at this time." For more information, they ask residents to go to
www.cityofevanston.org or call (847) 866-2999.
