5 People Possibly Shocked While Walking In City

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Five people were taken to an area hospital Wednesday night after reporting feeling a tingling sensation when they stepped into a puddle on the sidewalk at Division Street and Ashland Avenue at the entrance to a subway station, according to the Chicago Fire Department. The sensation was described as akin to an electrical shock.

The five people were taken to St. Mary's Medical Center in good condition, according to authorities.

ComEd was notified of the incident and were on the scene Wednesday night.

"A ComEd crew was dispatched to investigate this report last night,'' the company said in a statement. "That investigation indicated no problems related to ComEd equipment, nor was any electricity detected in the ground. ComEd's number one priority is public safety. We will continue to work with city officials during this ongoing investigation."

A crew from the city's Streets and Sanitation department was on the location Thursday afternoon, also running tests.

This is the third such incident recently. On Friday, three women were shocked by a heating grate outside of the Sears Tower in the West Loop. Later on Friday night, three people received an electrical shock from a light pole at 747 N. LaSalle.
