Driver Charged In Deadly Hit-And-Run

Byron Brown was charged with with residential burglary and murder and issued several traffic citations, after a hit-and-run crash that killed an elderly woman in Chicago.

Bond was set at $1 million Sunday afternoon for a 23-year-old man charged with burglary, murder and traffic violations in connection with a fatal hit-and-run last week that took the life of a 78-year-old woman.
Byron Brown, of the 11900 block of South Eggleston Avenue, was charged with residential burglary, murder, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving on a suspended driver's license, according to police News Affairs.
On Sunday, Cook County Circuit Court Judge Ramon Ocasio ordered Brown held on $1 million bond, according to a Cook County Circuit Court employee.
Tommye Freeman was killed in the car accident that occurred at 7600 S. State St. Wednesday night, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Chicago police officers saw two offenders fleeing the scene of the accident on foot after their car struck the vehicle carrying a 78-year-old woman about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, according to police News Affairs Officer John Henry.
Police said the offenders were fleeing the scene of a burglary in the 7600 block of South Langley Avenue, about a mile away, when they struck Freeman.
Freeman was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where she later died. She was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.
A preliminary hearing for Brown is set for Monday, July 7.
