Speeding Suspected In Deadly Edens Crash

Victim Ejected Near Skokie Boulevard

WILMETTE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A Portage Park neighborhood man was killed Sunday morning when he crashed and was ejected from a pickup on the Edens Expressway near north suburban Wilmette.

Vincent Ardlean, 43, of 5850 W. Henderson St. was pronounced dead Sunday after a motor vehicle accident on the Edens (I-94) in Wilmette, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He died of multiple injuries from a truck accident and his death was ruled an accident, a Monday autopsy revealed.

About 8:40 a.m., Ardlean was traveling northbound in the center lane on the Edens south of Skokie Boulevard in a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche when he suddenly veered into the right lane, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Ivan Bukaczyk.

The truck hit the right shoulder and rolled over, and Ardlean, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle, landing on the left shoulder. The truck finally came to rest near him, Bukaczyk said.

Witnesses say Ardlean was driving at a high rate of speed and it did not appear that alcohol or foul play was involved, Bukaczyk said.

According to Wilmette Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Gord, the driver was dead on the scene, lying outside the flipped truck.
