A wrong-way driver was killed and another motorist was injured in this crash on the Edens Expressway near Peterson Avenue Wednesday night.

A young man died when the car he was driving the wrong direction collided head-on with one car and sideswiped another on the Edens Expressway late Wednesday on the Northwest Side.
An 18-year-old man driving a 2003 Honda south in the northbound lanes of the Edens Expressway (I-94) near Peterson Avenue struck a northbound 2004 Acura head-on and sideswiped a northbound 2004 Subaru at 11:12 p.m., Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Mark Hall said.
The driver of the Honda was dead on the scene, but the Cook County Medical Examiner's would not release the man's identity pending family notification.
The driver of the Acura was taken to an unidentified hospital with a non-life-threatening tailbone injury and the driver of the Subaru was not injured, Hall said. Only the motorists were in each vehicle.
It was not immediately known why the driver of the Honda was driving the wrong way or how he got onto the expressway.
All northbound lanes were temporarily closed after the crash, but they were were reopened about 1:30 a.m., Hall said.
State Police continue their investigation Thursday morning.
